Rainier to Ruston Way June 4, 2011

This crazy person was a runner...and only runners would be crazy to do it.

Yesterday I got to experience one of the greatest things, seeing just what I could put myself through and watching my teammates go through it with me.

50.8 Miles, from Mt. Rainier Ranger Station near Fairfax to Ruston Way, Tacoma.
6 Team Members, 2 legs each.
I assigned the legs a few months ago, and while running I decided I picked badly!!!
I wanted a challenge & boy did I get one!

Here is the team:

JJ, Sally, Heidi, Amanda (back row)
Me, and Jodi (front row)
I took one of the isolated trail legs (#2), I figured that I was used to running on trails in the woods, so I would be fine....HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Leg 2 is muddy, slippery, very isolated, and rugged...that was the first two-thirds of the leg. The last third-ish was UPHILL!!! My legs were covered in silty mud & my shoes were completely soaked. It was like military boot camp!

Oh, and 6.3 miles...that means approximately 2 miles of UPHILL!

Looking back now, it was fun! I know, I am crazy...I told you, runners are CRAZY!

Anyway - The team keeps going. As I am trying to clean myself up & change, we are jetting off for Legs 3-9. I get to spend the time being a co-pilot (or back seat driver), and time keeper. I try to eat little bits at a time & drink lots of fluids.

The day is heating up, well into the mid-70s...finally good weather by the way.

I watch my team run their legs & fill us in on their trouble spots...unaccounted for Hills and no downhills at all. Mud in abundance. Heat. Cars not watching out for the runners. We have it all --- well not all, no flat tires, or running out of gas.

Finally, Leg 11...my turn again. Leg 11 is 5.3 miles...WHY, what was I thinking!!!

Sally tapping me into Leg 11
I was thinking, no problem. 5.3 miles on flat-ish paved road with 1 mile on unpaved trail. No Problem.
HA - the unpaved trail was SAND...SAND, like running on the beach SAND, Mile 1 was worse then the entire run of Leg 2. SAND.

After I scale (yes, scale) the bank to the road at the end of mile 1, I am thinking there is no way. My legs are toast.....until I get into the industrial park of Fife/Puyullap/Downtown Tacoma.

RUN....Run like your life depends on it.

I am alone & freaking out. AND HOT. Why did the sun have to be out today...of all days!!!

I have blocked out the run up until D street. I remember turning and seeing the bridge (why Up, why do I have to go Up...there better be a down here)...and thankfully I see it. I see my finish...I'm not sure how far away it is, but the finish is in sight. I RUN.....

I make it to the Museum of Glass & Tap Jodi into her leg...the teams final leg, Leg 12!!!

We head to Marine Park on Ruston Way.

We watch & cheer as Jodi makes it in to ring the final bell.

Jodi at the final bell station!
WE DID IT!!!
We started of the day sooooo unaware of the obstacles to come.
We each faced them with great determination.

We finished, standing strong & ever so thankful that it was over.

I learned that I could do anything I put my mind too.
My body can do it!

Sally will probably kill me for saying this...but ARE WE DOING IT NEXT YEAR???!!!?!?!?!

The Camping Trailer...

Here she is!
Our new home away from home!
A lovely addition to our compound.

After several years of camping out in tents, we have finally taken the plunge! Say hello to our 2000 Komfort Travel Trailer.

She is as 25 Foot Long Bunkhouse...plenty of room for our boys and their stuff.

The front part of the trailer is the master bedroom, presenting a very cozy queen bed.

The bump out dinette area.

Levi and Wyatt loving the table, they have made big plans to play Uno here.

The bunkbeds!

The kitchen area...we have an oven, microwave, fridge, and HOT WATER!!!!

The bathroom is at the end, near the bunkbeds.

Sally making use of the sweet couch.
We are so excited to start our new chapter in the old camping book. We are in the process of planning a few local trips. Hopefully next year we will be off to visit Wyoming -- home of Thomas & Aubree.

We also can't wait for the annual trip with the Wilson clan...we are so thankful that they include the Sapp clan in their camping weekend. We love hanging out with all of them & watching all the kids grow together.

Now for a name....any suggestions?

Happy Camping!

Busy, Busy, Busy...and a getaway

It seems that lately all I have time for is a monthly update. I can't wait for spring and summer, when the longer days allow me more time & energy to do more.

I am teaching 2 mornings a week at the Y, working out the other 3 mornings, then taking care of the kids and house, cooking, being sick, working...it never ends.

I am desperately awaiting my results of the Group Fitness Certification test that I took on February 20th. 4-6 weeks is a LONG time!

My husband and I have been working on getting a very specific travel trailer...it is hard for us to spend money, so it has to be perfect...which won't happen. Hopefully we will get what we want with in a reasonable price sometime before summer ends!

I also have been battling a mysterious ailment that caused excessive acid in my stomach & burning of my esophagus. Not fun & very scary. Still waiting on what caused this wonderful illness, and working through the discomfort.

Tomorrow I get to have the girls over for a Lia Sophia party. We will get to indulge in brownies, wine, and shiny stuff!

The boys are well, they continue to grow & doing silly things:

Alex, cousin Tyler, and Levi hanging out.

Duncan and I are trying to be more caring towards each other, and have come to realize after all these years, that time together is very important. We took an opportunity to get away, with just us and Thomas and Aubree. We headed off to Leavenworth.

I had never been. It is such a cute town & we had such a good time. The quite was amazing! We actually got to sit and watch a WHOLE program on the history channel...without interruptions!

Leavenworth Lights
The town still had its Christmas lights up, it was so beautiful!

Having a drink at the original Tumwater Inn!

It was a great trip, and we came home to our boys - happier and calmer parents.

Now, hopefully I can be a little more consistent with my blogging.

Here is to a happy spring!

Christmas at Disneyland 2010!

It's been a really busy two months at my house. Illness, work, and studying for my AFAA Certification left no time for much else. Today, since we are stuck inside because of the lovely snow, is perfect for blogging!
So, here is the trip to Disneyland...

I started really early on Christmas morning...3:45am to be exact. Mommy and Daddy got up & prepared to surprise the kids!

Everything under the tree!

Letter from Santa!
Then there was the wake-up call from Wyatt and Sally!

Then the wait at the airport:

After the plane ride, car rental, hotel check-in, and walk to the park...we were FINALLY at DISNEYLAND!!!!

This trip was a family affair. My mom and dad, Sally and Wyatt, my sister-in-law Angela with the two girls, and Duncan, me, and the boys. We were the stroller brigade!

Levi, Yael, Alex, Gavraila, and Wyatt
Dad and Angela being silly!
Levi and Alex loving the slides.

Levi and Wyatt with their new Mader Pens!

Duncan and the boys hanging out on the Carousel
Tea at Minnie's house.
We are in the back...our poor boys did not like us after this ride!
The castle all light up...wonder if Duncan would do this to our house?
Levi turned the big 6 on this trip...so we celebrated with dinner all together and a special cupcake...

We had a really good time. Disneyland is really busy the week between Christmas and New Years. We won't be going again during that time. It was worth the trip though...Disney is beautiful during the holidays, and it was a great way for us all to spend time together.

Sally and I can't wait to go back!

Mommy's Christmas Present

We have been in our house for 3 years now. We didn't buy any new furniture when we moved, so I have had a very LARGE (almost 8 years old) sectional in my living room. The problem, is the sectional put together takes up the entire room.
So, the sectional has been broken apart and it still over powers the room.
Here is my living room now:

Santa came a little early this year...via a fabulous sale at the secret shopping store. I was granted a new sofa, a chair, and matching ottoman.

The new furniture is not a drastic change, yet it has made the room feel more comfortable and "family" like. Levi sits in the chair with me and the baby likes to crawl up on my lap now.
Before, they literally jumped all over the furniture!

The new furniture was the 2nd best present this year.
The 1st, a visit to this special mouse:

Santa delivered us to Disneyland on Christmas Day! I can't wait to post about that!
Happy New Year!
